The spelling of Philippe also found to be Philipp. Philippe is buried in a cemetery listed as; Solchenberger Cemetery;St. Lawrence Cemetery; or Backeberg Cemetery. Although most of the stones bear the name ofMihlbauer. The cemetery is located in Woodland Township. Philippe came to the United States with his parents and siblings in1854; They arrived in New York on May 14 after a 5 months voyage.(info found in History of Sauk County,Butterfield, 1880; page 790 in paragraph about Wenz Mihlbauer) The following from Joyce Schellenger. According to Veda, and Susan, Phillip was a bit of a tyrant. He did not have an easy life. He came to America as a small boy withhis parents. He married Mary when he was 29 and they had 3 children. Five yearslater, when he was 34, Mary died of pneumonia. About a year later hemarried Katherine.

I cannot imagine how he took care of the 3 children, all under fiveand did the farming for a year. Possibly grandparents helped. He andKatherine had 9 children, 3 who died in infancy and one (Anthony) whowas a sickly child and lived til about 10 years old.

He lived on the original farm all his life. When he died he left itjointly to all his living children. The farm now belongs to EvelynWyman. She is Edwards daughter.
